Tim David shut his naysayers down with a brilliant catch in the first T20I between England and Australia in Southampton.

The match saw England stand-in captain Phil Salt winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. Travis Head and Matthew Short hammered the living daylights out of England bowlers. The opening pair added 86 runs in the first 6 overs, with Head slamming 30 runs off one over by Sam Curran.

Head fell for 59 in 23 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes, while Short made 41 in 26 with 2 sixes and 4 fours. Josh Inglis then made 37 runs in 27 balls as England made a terrific comeback to halt the Australian run-making. In the end, Australia finished with 179 runs on the board.

Liam Livingstone picked three wickets, while Jofra Archer and Saqib Mahmood picked two wickets each.

In reply, England's innings never got going as Australian bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Liam Livingstone top-scored with 37, while Phil Salt made 20 runs, as England managed 151 runs in 19.2 overs. Australia won the first T20I by 28 runs to go 1-0 up in the series.

However, the highlight of the England innings was a brilliant one-handed catch by Tim David. It was the third delivery of the fifth over, and Xavier Barlett bowled it on a length to off. With a slower delivery, Cox went for a wild slog. He didn't time it properly, but it appeared that the ball would land in no-man's land.

However, Tim David had other intentions; he rushed all the way to deep mid-wicket from the start, maintained his eyes on the ball, and then dived full-length to retrieve it with both hands.
