The third Test between England and Sri Lanka is being played at the Oval in London. England are leading the series 2-0 and were asked to bat first by Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva, who won the toss.
Thanks to stand-in captain Ollie Pope’s brilliant 154 and Ben Duckett’s 86, England posted 325 runs. Sri Lanka bowlers did well to stop them from reaching 400, as Milan Ratnayake picked three wickets, while Viswa Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, and skipper De Silva picked two wickets each.
In response, England bowlers reduced Sri Lanka to 93/5 at one stage with Pathum Nissanka scoring 64 runs.
On Saturday, when the clouds darkened and the light faded in London, pacer Chris Woakes was seen bowling off-spin against the Lankan batters.
The incident occurred in the seventh over of Sri Lanka's 1st innings, when on-field umpires notified captain Ollie Pope that the light was insufficient for the pacers to operate. Woakes had four balls left when the umpires shouted no more quick bowling.
Woakes was obliged to finish his remaining four deliveries with off-spin while England bowling coach Jeetan Patel and the players on the field kept a close eye on the situation.
Woakes bowled three off-spinning deliveries with a couple of slips, a leg slip, and a short leg, one of which went over the fence. He finished the over with an arm ball.
