Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh retired after India's Bronze medal win | GettyIndian Hockey team clinched the Bronze medal in the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics. They defeated Spain 2-1 in the 3rd place match. It came as a huge relief for India who had been laid low with a string of 4th place finishes in various disciplines and the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from a gold medal match in wrestling.

After defeating Spain 2-1 in the bronze medal game at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Thursday at the Yves de Manoir Stadium, the Indian hockey team won back-to-back medals for the first time since 1972.

In the first two quarters of the game, both sides performed identically, with scores of 0-0 and 1-1, respectively. India did not take the lead until the third quarter when they scored 2-1. This is India's second consecutive bronze medal at the Olympics.

After this win, goalkeeper PR Sreejesh has chosen to retire on a triumphant note following India’s remarkable achievement of winning consecutive hockey bronze medals for the first time in 52 years. The last time India won back-to-back hockey medals at the Olympics was in 1968 and 1972.

The Indian cricket fraternity was over the moon seeing their hockey counterparts achieving this feat at the 2024 Paris Olympics. They took to social media and lauded the Hockey team’s effort and congratulated them on the Bronze medal win.
