Manu Bhaker became the first Indian athlete to win a medal in the ongoing Paris Olympic Games 2024.
Bhaker, 22, won a bronze medal in the women’s 10-m air pistol event. With this, she also became the first woman to clinch a shooting medal for India. She missed the silver medal by a margin of 0.1 points to South Korea's Kim Yeji.
Bhaker started brightly, finishing in second place with 50.4 points after the first five shots. Manu Bhaker got 100.3 points in the second round. She remained in second place after firing 12 shots for 121.2 points. However, she dropped to third place after 14 and 15 shots rounds. In the final road, she scored 221.7 points to win the bronze medal for her country.
This is the fifth shooting medal for India. Earlier, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (silver in Athens Olympics, 2004), Abhinav Bindra (gold, Beijing 2008), Gagan Narang (bronze, London 2012), and Vijay Kumar (silver, London) have brought glory to the country in shooting.
The Indian cricket fraternity was proud of Manu Bhaker’s achievement and lauded her bronze medal at the Paris Olympics and wished her on social media.
