Kedar Jadhav, the India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter, announced his retirement from all cricket on June 3, 2024. He announced on social media and his post resembled that of MS Dhoni.
Jadhav, who shares a cordial relationship with Dhoni, also shared a slideshow of photos from his career with a Kishore Kumar song playing in the background.
"Thank you all For your love and support throughout my Career from 1500 hrs. Consider me as retired from all forms of cricket," Kedar Jadhav said in the post, confirming his retirement at 3 pm IST on Monday.
Fans who looked at Jadhav’s retirement announcement, couldn’t help but compare it to that of MS Dhoni. The announcement was worded exactly like MS Dhoni's retirement note. Dhoni shocked his fans on August 15, 2020, by announcing his retirement with a two-line statement on his Instagram profile, a year after he played his last international game for India -- at the 2019 World Cup in England.
Kedar Jadhav appeared in 73 ODIs and 9 T20Is for India between 2014 and 2020. The 39-year-old thrived under MS Dhoni's captaincy, giving the team with valuable off-spin. Jadhav competed in the 2019 World Cup and was a member of the team that advanced to the semifinals.
Kedar Jadhav scored 1389 runs in 73 ODIs, including 2 hundreds and 6 fifties. He scored 122 runs for India in 9 T20Is. The off-spinner, who had a low-arm action, picked 27 wickets at an economy rate of 5.15 in ODIs.
He also played 93 IPL matches and scored 1196 runs. He was part of the title-winning Chennai Super Kings team that won the IPL in 2018. Jadhav also played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2010, Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011 and returned to Delhi between 2013 and 2015.
Kedar Jadhav last played for RCB in IPL 2023 and had previously represented the side in 2016 and 2017 as well.
Jadhav engraved his name in IPL history when in IPL 2018, the year Chennai Super Kings (CSK) returned to the IPL fold after a 2-year ban, the batter helped CSK defeat Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener in Mumbai.
He had injured his hamstring early in the match but had to come out to bat again as CSK needed someone to finish the game. He managed to hit a six and a four in the last over to take CSK to the win. This led to CSK fans paying heartfelt tribute to Kedar Jadhav remembering that same match.
