Virat Kohli was honored with the ICC ODI Player of the Year award and named in the ICC Men's ODI Team of the Year for 2023.
Virat Kohli was the second highest run-getter in the ODIs in 2023 with 1377 runs in 27 matches at an average of 72.47 and strike rate of 99.13. He hit 6 centuries and 8 fifties with the highest score being 166*. He also hit 122 fours and 64 sixes in ODIs in 2023.
Apart from this, Virat Kohli broke two world records held by legend Sachin Tendulkar in 2023. He became the first batter to hit 50 centuries in ODIs, breaking Tendulkar’s record of 49. Then he smashed the record of Sachin Tendulkar for the most runs in a single ICC World Cup edition.
Tendulkar had amassed 673 runs in 2003 World Cup, but Kohli smashed that record with 765 runs in 2023 World Cup. He averaged 95.62, with his tally including three centuries and six fifties. His top score in the tournament was 117.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) celebrated Kohli's achievements by sharing a video on social media platforms, showcasing the presentation of his award and cap, a testament to his exceptional performance throughout 2023.
