Pakistan played the second T20I against England on their ongoing UK tour in Birmingham and lost the match quite comfortably. This resulted in Babar Azam missing out on a Mercedes Car gift that was announced by a fan ahead of the match.
England was asked to bat first by Babar Azam and thanks to 84 by skipper Jos Buttler, 37 by Will Jacks, and Jonny Bairstow’s 21, the hosts posted 183/7 in 20 overs. Shaheen Afridi took 3/36, while Imad Wasim and Haris Rauf took two wickets each.
Before the game had started, a female Pakistan team fan in an interview with a news outlet outside the venue, announced that if Babar Azam scored a century in this match, she would gift him a Mercedes car and also showed the keys to the vehicle.
"Babar Azam agar hundred karte hain to mai ye chaabi aaj saboot ke taur pe layi hu ke mai apni zubaan ki pakki hu (If Babar scores a hundred, then I have brought this key with me today as proof that I keep my words). Please, Babar Azam, give us happiness by scoring a century and take this Mercedes," she said further.
Unfortunately, Babar Azam could only muster 32 off 26 balls. Making matters worse, Pakistan lost the match as well, ending up with 160 all out while chasing England's 183 for 7. The win gave England a 1-0 lead in the four-match series. The first match of the series in Headingley was washed out by rain.
The third T20I will be played on May 28 in Cardiff.
