Sri Lankan women’s cricket team captain, Chamari Athapaththu, is all set to make her debut in the ongoing Women’s Premier League 2024 (WPL 2024) with the UP Warriorz.

Even before her WPL debut, she has been winning hearts in India. Actually, Athapaththu surprised one and all when she was spotted singing the Indian national anthem before the start of the opening game of the ongoing WPL 2024 between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC).

The UP Warriorz will begin their WPL 2024 campaign against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Saturday, February 24, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Ahead of the opening clash with the RCB, the UP Warriorz shared a clip on their Instagram account where Chamari Athapaththu can be seen singing the Indian national anthem, 'Jana Gana Mana', along with her teammates, as they were watching the WPL 2024 opener between MI and DC.

Now, the video of the moment has been going viral on social media.

Notably, Athapaththu was added to the UP Warriorz squad as a replacement for Lauren Bell after the English fast bowler withdrew from the WPL in 2024.

Earlier, the Sri Lankan star had expressed disappointment after not getting any buyers at the auction despite her wonderful performances at the highest level.
