WATCH- On-field umpire mistakenly signals out despite TV umpire saying not out during Australia v South Africa women’s ODI

The TV umpire decision was not out, but the on-field umpire goofed up.

On field umpire Claire Polosak made a goof up | XAn extremely funny instance of the on-field umpire goofing up happened during the recent second ODI of the three-match series between South Africa and Australia Women at North Sydney Oval.

Possibly one of the goofiest moments in cricket, the umpire mixed up the decisions, as the TV umpire said not out to an LBW review but the ground umpire mistakenly signaled it out.

The incident happened when Australia went for DRS for an LBW appeal against Sune Luus on the bowling of Ashleigh Gardner. On-field umpire Claire Polosak gave it not out initially and the TV umpire Sue Redfern found out that the ball was pitched outside off stump and the impact was also well outside it.

"Pitching outside off, impact outside. Back to Claire on the field, please. Stay with not out. Stand by. Signal not out now," said the TV umpire.

When the camera panned to umpire Polosak, she mistakenly raised her finger to give it out. She soon realized her mistake and changed her signal. The Australian players around her had a chuckle, while the umpire herself smiled.

Check out the goof-up here:

South Africa had put on 229/6 in 45 overs after being asked to bat first. Marizanne Kapp made 75, Anneke Bosch made 44. For Australia, Megan Schutt and Ash Gardner took two wickets each.

In response, Australia was bundled out for 149 runs with Kim Garth top-scoring with 42*. Marianne Kapp took three wickets, while Ayanda Hlubi, Eliz-mari Marx, and Nadine de Klerk took 2 wickets each as South Africa won by 84 runs (DLS method).

This was the first time since March 2009, that Australian women lost an ODI chasing at home.
