Australian captain Pat Cummins showered praise on Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja after being honored with the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year Award for 2023.
Speaking at the ICC Awards 2024 ceremony, Cummins lauded Kohli and Jadeja for being consistent performers for India and praised their ability to rescue their team from challenging situations.
Cummins staved off competition from his teammate Travis Head, as well as former Indian skipper Kohli and star all-rounder Jadeja, to win the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year Award for 2023.
Reflecting on Australia's success in winning two ICC trophies in 2023, Cummins highlighted the World Cup final as the most memorable win, as it came in India against India.
Pat Cummins was quoted as saying by ICC: “It's a huge honour. It has been a big year, lots of wonderful team success. To get this individual honour is huge and I am pretty amazed. In terms of individual accolades, it is right up there.”
He added, “Kohli and Jadeja are super consistent, you can't keep them out of it, they find a way to drag their team out of trouble & win it, to be alongside those guys has been really special.”
Notably, Kohli withdrawn from the first two Tests of the ongoing five-match Test series against England. On the other hand, Jadeja was part of India’s 28-run defeat in the first Test against England.
