AUS v WI 2024: WATCH- Ricky Ponting’s accurate prediction on how to get Alex Carey out comes true

Alex Carey and Usman Khawaja added 96 runs for 6th wicket to repair Australian innings.

Alex Carey | GettyRicky Ponting, the legendary cricketer, had a moment of magic when commentating on Australia's second Test against the West Indies. Ponting, noted for his analytical commentary, correctly predicted the removal of wicketkeeper Alex Carey.

The incident happened in the 28th over of Australian innings when Alex Carey and Usman Khawaja rebuilt the innings from 52/5. They added 96 runs to rescue Australia from a top-order collapse. Carey had been at his aggressive best hitting 9 boundaries and 1 six.

Ponting, commentating for the official broadcaster, said that West Indies should bowl to him at good length because he was going after every single ball.

"It looks like (Carey's) eyes are spinning a bit to me. He's in overdrive at the moment, and wants to hit every ball. I agree with you Bish, just go a bit more defensive, make him play a big shot from a good length ball," Ponting said.

In the very next ball of the over, Carey, while trying to pull a length ball, failed to get elevation and handed a catch to Tagenarine Chanderpaul off the bowling of Shamar Joesph.

Australia declared their innings at 289/9 while trailing by 26 runs.
