AUS v WI 2024: WATCH - Alex Carey gets a lucky lifeline after bail doesn't fall off groove

The ball managed to spin the bail in the groove but didn't dislodge it.

Alex Carey got a life | XAlex Carey was a lucky person on day 2 of the ongoing second Test match between Australia and West Indies being played in Brisbane.

West Indies recovered well to finish on 311 as Kavem Hodge (71), Joshua Da Silva (79), Kevin Sinclair (50) and Alzarri Joseph (32) starred with the bat in lower order. Then in response, four out of the top five Australian batters failed to reach double figures as they were reduced to 24/4 in 5 overs and then 54/5 in the 12th over.

It could very well have been 6 wickets but for a stubborn bail. On the second ball of the 15th over bowled by Shamar Joseph, the ball went past the inside edge of Alex Carey’s bat and keeper Da Silva pouched the ball and went up in appeal for caught behind.

The umpire gave it not out, but the replays showed that the ball, while not taking the edge of the bat, had flicked the bail on its way to the keeper. The bail even spun in the groove but somehow, it managed to stay on the stumps, showing a huge spike on the Ultraedge.
