Pakistan lost the second T20I against New Zealand in the ongoing five-match series. This match was played on January 14, 2024, in Hamilton and saw Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi winning the toss and choosing to bowl first.
New Zealand posted 194/8 buoyed by Finn Allen’s 74 in 41 balls. Others who contributed as well were Kane Williamson (26 retired hurt), Mitchell Santner (25) and Devon Conway (20). Haris Rauf took three wickets for Pakistan.
During the New Zealand innings, Babar Azam and Azam Khan were seen in a joyous mood. In the 19th over of New Zealand's innings, Rauf’s delivery for his hat-trick went way down the leg side. But keeper Azam Khan put in a dive to his left to save the boundary. Saim Ayub then congratulated Azam.

But Babar Azam came up to Azam Khan and both kind of side bumped one another in celebration.

In response, Pakistan lost their openers early, but Babar Azam (66 off 43) and Fakhar Zaman (50 off 25) threatened to take the game away. But New Zealand bowlers, especially Adam Milne (4/33) and two wickets each by Tim Southee, Ben Sears, and Ish Sodhi, kept Pakistan to 173.
Shaheen’s 22 in 13 went in vain as Pakistan lost by 21 runs and went 2-0 down in the five- T20I series.
