Troy Johnson’s crazy effort left everyone stunned | ScreengrabIt’s the second week of 2024 and we have perhaps already witnessed the catch of the year, courtesy of Nick Kelly and Troy Johnson’s combined brilliance in the Super Smash - T20 tournament in New Zealand.

The scorecard shows that Kelly took the catch to dismiss Will Young but the real orchestrator of the dismissal was Johnson, who pulled off a crazy effort to leave everyone stunned.

During the sixth over of Central Districts' run chase, Wellington pacer Michael Snedden bowled a fuller-length delivery and Young went for a big shot down the ground.

The ball seemed to be falling in the no man's land but Troy Johnson, who was stationed at mid-on, sprinted to the boundary and grabbed a superb catch putting in a dive just near the boundary line.

Upon realizing that the momentum will take him outside the boundary, Johnson threw the ball behind him in the nick of time, resulting in Nick Kelly completing what should be one of the finest catches in cricket history.

Here’s the video:

Coming to the match, Central Districts won the game while chasing the target of 148 runs in less than 17 overs. Jack Boyle slammed 57 off 43 balls while Doug Bracewell finished the job with an unbeaten 30 off 11 balls.

Earlier, Wellington rode on Logan van Beek's unbeaten 41 off 24 balls to post a fighting total of 147 runs in their 20 overs.
