Australia took a 2-0 lead in the three-Test series against Pakistan with one more Test to go. The second match was played in Melbourne and saw the hosts winning by 79 runs. With this loss, Pakistan’s hopes of winning a Test in Australia since 1995 got extended.
Australia had set Pakistan 317 runs to win the match on the fourth day. Pakistan put up a good fight with captain Shan Masood leading the way and Agha Salman also scored a fifty. However, a second fifer by Australia captain Pat Cummins ended their chances as Pakistan was bowled out for 237 runs.
Earlier in the day, Alex Carey (53) and Pat Cummins (16) were looking to extend the lead of Australians. When the play resumed on Day 4, Cummins pushed Aamer Jamal's delivery through point as he and Carey sneaked a couple of runs.
However, the throw to the bowler's end was missed by Jamal and it resulted in an overthrow.
While Imam-ul-Haq made a long chase to stop the ball from going for a boundary, Cummins and Carey completed three more runs due to the comedy of errors. This resulted in five runs for Australia without a boundary or a no-ball.
