The first Test of the three-match series between Australia and Pakistan got underway in Perth’s Optus Stadium on December 14, 2023. Pakistan is yet to win a Test series in Australia and hasn’t won a single Test down under since the 1995-96 tour.
Meanwhile, Pat Cummins won the toss and chose that Australia would bat first. David Warner, playing in his final Test series of his career, and Usman Khawaja opened the innings for the home team.
The duo posted 126 runs for the first wicket as Khawaja and Warner made Pakistan bowlers work hard. Warner even got a life when Abdullah Shafique dropped a tough chance running backwards from slips.
Khawaja fell for 41 runs, but Warner continued the onslaught and brought up his 50 in just 41 balls. He carried on hammering the toothless Pakistani bowling all over the Optus Stadium and shortly brought up his 26th Test ton in 125 balls.
The cricket fraternity lauded David Warner for his superlative innings as he shut out the unnecessary noise about his selection in the Australia team and gave a mouth-shutting reply to his critics.
