Team India clinched the five-T20I series 4-1 against Australia with a thrilling six-run victory in the final match at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Sunday (December 3).

After India’s dominating series win, former cricketer Mohammad Kaif posted a tweet that read: "Better talent, better skills. This time the better team on the field, and on paper, won. 4-1,"

For the unversed, Kaif had made a bizarre comment after India’s World Cup 2023 final loss to Australia in Ahmedabad last month, saying that the best team on paper did not lift the coveted trophy.

“Facts: It was Australia's day in final, they won, they are World Cup winners. More facts: India comprehensively won 10 games, they lost 11th, they had the best bowlers and batters. They were the tournament's best team. Both facts, on paper and on field. Relax Australia,” Kaif had tweeted on November 23.

His post had triggered fierce reactions from several current and former Australian cricketers, including the World Cup winner David Warner.

Now, Kaif’s tweet after India’s T20I series win over Australia has drawn him a lot of flak as well as trolling.

In reaction to his post, some fans dug out Kaif’s seven-year-old tweet, in which he had shared a contrasting view.

“Disappointing to see one of my fvrt #SA exit early from #WT20.it doesn't matter how strong you are on paper, you have to perform on the day,” Kaif had tweeted, referring to South Africa's first-round exit from the T20 World Cup 2016.

In that tournament, the Proteas had some of the best cricketers in their ranks like AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Knock, JP Duminy, David Miller and Dale Steyn. However, they managed only two wins in the Super 10 stage and failed to qualify for the semi-finals.

Here's how the fans reacted to Kaif's old post:
