Dipika Pallikal and Harinderpal Singh made India proud after they won the gold medal in the mixed doubles squash event in the ongoing 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. This led to Dipika’s husband, India cricketer Dinesh Karthik sharing his elation on social media.
The top-seeded Indian duo beat the Aifa Azman and Mohammad Kamal pair of Malaysia in two straight games 11-10, 11-10 to finish on top of the podium. This is India’s first-ever mixed doubles gold in squash.
This is India’s 20th gold in this edition of the Asiad and the nation sits fourth in the medal standings with 83 medals in total.
Meanwhile, this is Dipika’s second medal in the ongoing Asian Games. She had earlier won a Bronze in the women's team event. The 32-year-old thus has a haul of six medals, including one gold and one silver, and four bronze medals across four editions of the Asian Games.

Dinesh Karthik, who married Dipika in August 2015, couldn’t help but share his pride and joy on social media.
He shared a video clip of the winning moment with caption: “Its gold time again. Well done @DipikaPallikal and harinder Thanks Sundarwashi5 for the video.”
He also thanked the Indian cricket team’s Washington Sundar and Rahul Tripathi for cheering for his wife at the event and also capturing the winning moment in a video.
He posted: “Thanks @Sundarwashi5 @tripathirahul52 and HARSHA. Really nice of you'll to go support Dipika and Indian squash. It means a lot . Feeling envious I couldn't be there but nice of you'll to take time out from cricket to go and watch them play”
