Cheteshwar Pujara was left out of the Indian Test squad when the team kicked off its World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 campaign against West Indies two months ago.
Pujara’s snub came after his failure in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year and the WTC 2023 final against Australia.
After being dropped from the Test side, Pujara played for Sussex in the English County Championship. The 35-year-old is now gearing up to take part in the Irani Trophy 2023.
On Wednesday (September 27), Pujara shared a video on Instagram, in which he can be seen honing his skills in the nets.
“Back to the grind! Gearing up for #IraniTrophy,” he wrote in the caption.
Pujara’s post received a hilarious reply from veteran India opener Shikhar Dhawan, who has also lost his place in India’s ODI team.
“Bhai bas kar youngster ko bhi khelne de ab. Irani se Tere liye Naani Trophy ho gayi hai,” Dhawan commented.
Taking about the Irani Trophy, Pujara’s state team and Ranji champions Saurashtra will take on Rest of India. The match will be played in Rajkot from October 1 to October 5.
