India defeated Sri Lanka women in gold medal Asian games match | GettyIndia women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur was over the moon after her team defeated Sri Lanka in the gold medal final match in the ongoing Asian Games on Monday, September 25, 2023. India came into the tournament as favorites, having dominated the Asia Cup editions of the past and ranked highest among all the teams.

India had earlier gotten past Malaysia and defeated Bangladesh to reach the title clash under Smriti Mandhana’s captaincy. Harmanpreet Kaur returned in the final to lead the side after her two-match suspension ended.

Opting to bat first, India posted 116/7 in 20 overs at the ZJUT Cricket Field. Sri Lanka fought hard but fell short by 19 runs which meant India won their first cricket gold at the Asian Games, participating for the first time.

Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues starred with the bat, while Titas Sadhu was the star bowler with 3 wickets to her name.

After the Indian team won the gold medal for cricket in the women’s cricket event, the captain Harmanpreet Kaur said that she and the entire team had come to China for the gold and achieved their goal. She also wished the other Indian athletes in their endeavor to win the gold medal.
