England all-rounder Ben Stokes created a new record for his team in the ongoing third ODI against New Zealand at the Oval on September 13, 2023, as he hammered the highest individual score for his team.
New Zealand captain Tom Latham won the toss and chose to bowl first. Trent Boult, who made his return to international cricket for the Kiwis, removed Jonny Bairstow (0) and Joe Root (4) early on.
But then Dawid Malan (96 with 12 fours and 1 six) added 199 runs for the third wicket with Ben Stokes in what was an amazing partnership between the two left-handers.
Stokes dominated the proceedings bringing up his 50 in just 44 balls, hitting 9 fours. He continued the assault and brought up his 4th ODI century in just 76 balls.
While Malan was dismissed for 96 runs, Stokes’ assault continued as he reached his 150 in 106 balls and shortly went past Jason Roy’s record of 180- the highest individual score for England in ODIs.
Stokes looked good for a double ton but was dismissed by Ben Lister for 182 in 124 balls with 15 fours and 9 sixes to his name.
England posted 368 in 48.1 overs with Trent Boult taking 5/51 and Ben Lister taking 3/69.
