India leggie Yuzvendra Chahal had a very good start to his English county cricket championship sojourn for Kent, as he picked up three wickets in the first innings for his team against Nottinghamshire.
Chahal was snubbed from the 17-member India Asia Cup 2023 squad and also missed the cut for the 15-member World Cup squad as well. As the men in blue marauded Pakistan in Colombo in their Super 4 match at the Asia Cup, Chahal produced artistry for Kent on his County Championship debut.
The leg spinner nabbed three wickets in the first innings against Nottinghamshire, who remained eight down for 219 on day two of their game.
His dismissal of Lyndon James stood out. Chahal bowled a beautiful leg-spinner from over the wicket which pitched on the middle stump and brought James forward in a defensive shot. However, the ball turned enough to beat his edge and uprooted his off-stump.

It was only last week that Kent announced the signing of the Indian leg spinner for the ongoing season. Chahal shared his experience of playing in England county cricket for the first time.
“I’m playing red-ball cricket after 14 months, it’s a little tough but a good experience for me. Good lads, I never felt like I’m playing Kent for the first time,” Chahal said.
