Hubli Tigers’ captain Manish Pandey led from the front in the field during the final of the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 2023 against the Mysuru Warriors on Tuesday, August 29.
The Warriors captain Karun Nair won the toss and chose to field first and CA Karthik gave the team the apt start, dismissing Luvnith Sisodia for a duck. Mohammed Taha stood tall with a knock of 72in 40 balls.
But the impetus to the innings was given by Manish Pandey, who hit 50* in 23 balls with 4 sixes and 3 fours as Hubli Tigers posted 203/8 in 20 overs.
In reply, Ravikumar Samarth made 63, while Karun Nair contributed 37 runs as the match got close in the end. Mysuru Warriors needed 11 runs from the final 4 balls when J Suchith hit Manvanth Kumar’s delivery towards long-off.
The left-hander had made an excellent connection with the ball and it looked like the ball would cross the boundary easily for a six.
However, Manish Pandey, stationed at the boundary, jumped high in the air and caught the ball. However, knowing that he would fall over the boundary line, he flicked the ball back into play before falling and then collected the ball after returning.
He saved 4 crucial runs for his side and the Tigers went on to win the game by 8 runs.
