The second game of the Lanka Premier League (LP) 2023 was halted for some time in a most unusual manner.
It all happened during the clash between Galle Titans and Dambulla Aura at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Monday (July 31).
In Dambulla's innings, a snake entered the ground and forced the match to stop. Eventually, the ground staff intervened and caught the snake before the action could resume.
Reacting to the hilarious moment, veteran India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik wrote on X: "The naagin is back. I thought it was in Bangladesh”, referring to the Naagin dance that the Bangladesh team performed after defeating Sri Lanka during the infamous Nidahas Trophy tri-series in 2018, also involving India.
Notably, Karthik was the chief architect behind India’s Nidahas Trophy final victory against Bangladesh. They needed 5 off the last ball and Karthik finished the game with a six.
It remains one of the best achievements of Karthik’s international career. He was strangely sent in as late as No.7 in a chase of 167. Undeterred by that, Karthik smashed a remarkable 8-ball 29*, including a last-ball six against Soumya Sarkar to seal the deal for India.
