Widely regarded as one of India’s greatest cricketers ever, MS Dhoni is celebrating his 42nd birthday today (July 7, 2023).
Soon after making his debut in 2004, Dhoni established himself as India’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batter thanks to his stunning exploits in Tests and ODIs.
In 2007, the man from Ranchi was handed India’s T20I captaincy and he led the team to the inaugural T20 World Cup victory in his first assignment as skipper.
Four years later, Dhoni led the Indian team to an ODI World Cup triumph at home while he captained the side to a Champions Trophy win in 2013 – becoming the only captain to lift all three ICC trophies in white-ball cricket.
Dhoni also led the Indian team to pinnacle in Test cricket. He called time on his red-ball career in 2014 after playing 90 matches. He scored 4876 runs with six hundreds and 33 half-centuries in the longest format of the game.
Before retiring from international cricket in 2020, MS Dhoni featured in 350 ODIs, amassing 10773 runs at an average of 50.57 with 10 tons and 73 fifties. In 98 T20Is, he scored 1617 runs at a strike rate of 126.13.
He may have brought down the curtains on his international career, but Dhoni continues to feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He recently captained CSK to a record-equalling fifth IPL title.
On his 42nd birthday, wishes poured in for the legendary MS Dhoni from Team India cricketers.
