Ashes 2023: WATCH- New footage of Australians being called cheats in long room; MCC suspends 3 members

Khawaja and Warner got into an altercation with a older member in the Long Room due to rude comments.

MCC members chanted cheat at Australian players and booed them | TwitterNew footage has emerged from the contentious Lord’s Long room incident which shows more members of the MCC heckling the Australian players who were returning to their dressing room after lunch on day five of the second Test.

This was after Jonny Bairstow had been controversially stumped by Alex Carey as the batter moved out of his crease after leaving a delivery from Cameron Green and the keeper hit the stumps with an under-arm throw.

Since Bairstow was out of his crease, the decision was referred to the TV umpire, who after watching the replays, deemed him out.

After the Australian team was returning to the pavilion via the long room at the Lord’s, Usman Khawaja and David Warner got into an altercation with an elder member of the MCC who was jeering at them.

Both the cricketers had to be held back by their teammates and security officials.

More videos have now emerged as members present on the stairs of the long room can be heard chanting ‘cheats’ and booing at the Australian team as they make their way up into the dressing room.

Australia won the Test by 43 runs to go 2-0 up in the five-match Ashes 2023 and at the end of the day, The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) on Sunday “unreservedly apologized” to the Australian team after its few members abused several visiting players in the Lord’s Long Room.

And now in the latest update, the MCC had, on Sunday itself, suspended three of the members over altercations with the Australian team in Lord's Long Room.

Ashes 2023: MCC apologizes to Australia over a member's altercation with Warner and Khawaja in Long room

"Further to the earlier statement, MCC can confirm it has suspended three Members identified earlier today. They will not be permitted back to Lord's whilst the investigation takes place and were informed of this by MCC Chief Executive, Guy Lavender, this evening," the MCC said in a statement late on Sunday.

"We maintain that the behavior of a small number of Members was completely unacceptable and whilst there was no suggestion by Pat Cummins in the post-match press conference that there was any physical altercation, it remains wholly unacceptable to behave in such a way, which goes against the values of the Club. MCC condemns the behavior witnessed and once again we re-iterate our apology to Cricket Australia," the statement read.

The third Test between the two sides will be played at Headingley from July 6 onwards.
