Logan van Beek was named the Player of the Match for his super over heroics | GettyWest Indies’ Road to the World Cup 2023 in India just got tougher as they were handed a defeat in the Super Over by the Netherlands in their last league stage game in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers being played in Zimbabwe.

West Indies had batted first after the Netherlands won the toss and put on 374/6 in 50 overs. Nicholas Pooran made 104* in 65 balls, while Brandon King and Johnson Charles made half-centuries.

The Netherlands kept the tempo of the chase on par with the required run rate with Teja Nidamanuru scoring 111 and captain Scott Edwards making 66 runs as the Dutch finished on 374/9 in 50 overs, managing to tie the match.

In the Super Over, Logan van Beek was the man to do all of the damage, hitting every single ball by Jason Holder to the boundary, with three fours and three sixes setting a new record of 30 runs.

In reply, West Indies only managed 8 runs and lost both their wickets to lose the super over and the match.

This means the two-time World Cup winners will have to win all three of their remaining games to stand a chance of reaching the World Cup in India that starts in October.
