Dindigul Dragons’ captain R Ashwin led from the front in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL 2023) as his team defeated Chepauk Super Gillies by one run in their last match.
The Dragons were put into bat first by Chepauk captain N Jagadeesan. Thanks to 45 from Adhitya Ganesh and contributions from Suboth Bhati (31), and Sarath Kumar (25), the Dragons posted 170/9 in 20 overs.
Rahil Shah picked 3/38 for the Chepauk team.
In response, Baba Aparajith made 74 and skipper Jagadeesan made 37 runs, but Dragons bowlers did well as Varun Chakravarthy picked 3/23 and Sarvana Kumar took 2 wickets.
As the match moved towards a close finish, Chakravarthy got the dangerous Sanjay Yadav to swat across a straight delivery in the 14th over and the ball went over the mid-on position. R Ashwin ran backwards while keeping his eyes on the ball.
In the end, he had to dive to complete a brilliant catch and celebrated.
