Zimbabwe is hosting the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers which includes 10 teams including former World Cup winners like West Indies and Sri Lanka.
Eight teams have secured direct qualification for the 50-over megaevent that will be played across the months of October and November across multiple venues in India, whereas the remaining two will qualify via the ongoing qualifiers.
Zimbabwe, which has the advantage of playing in its own backyard, would like to return to the World Cup fold after an eight-year gap. They missed out on a place in the 2019 edition, which was played in England.
The African side has started their World Cup qualifying campaign on a high, and in the tournament opener, they thrashed Nepal by eight wickets.
They chased down the target of 291 runs at the Harare Sports Club on Sunday (June 18) in just 44.1 overs for the loss of only two wickets. For the hosts, Craig Ervine top-scored by remaining unbeaten on 121, and Sean Williams hammered 102 not out from just 70 balls.
Their unbeaten 164-run stand for the third wicket was enough for Zimbabwe to get home safely.
After the win over Nepal, a viral video is showing the fans celebrating the victory and also cleaning the Harare Sports Club ground stands by picking up the garbage they had created during the encounter.
