Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa was at his brutal best during the recent Legends League Cricket Masters tournament being played in Qatar, as he helped Indian Maharajas rout the Asia Lions by 10 wickets.
Playing for the Maharajas, Uthappa, who announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket back in September 2022, was severe on Mohammad Hafeez at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium, Doha on March 14.
In the ninth over of the Maharajas’ run-chase, Uthappa took full advantage of Hafeez’s short bowling and pulled him over the mid-wicket boundary for three sixes in an over. After three sixes, Uthappa collected a four followed by a single as the Maharajas collected 23 runs off that over.
Along with captain Gautam Gambhir, who made 61* in 36 balls, Uthappa (88* in 39 balls, 11 fours, 5 sixes) helped Maharajas overhaul the 158-run target in just 12.3 overs.
Earlier, thanks to Upul Tharanga’s 69 and 32 from Tillakaratne Dilshan and 27* from Abdul Razzaq, Lions made 157/5.
