Quetta Gladiators faced off against Peshawar Zalmi in a PSL exhibition match on February 5, 2023 in Bugti Stadium, Quetta and the encounter saw Zalmi’s Wahab Riaz being smashed for six sixes in an over by Gladiator’s Iftikhar Ahmed.
Zalmi’s captain Babar Azam had won the toss and decided to bowl first. Riaz gave them the perfect start by dismissing Ahsan Ali and Umar Akmal in the second over of the innings, but thanks to amazing innings by Iftikhar Ahmed, Gladiators hit back in the second half of the innings to post 184/5 in 20 overs.
Iftikhar stitched a 51-run partnership with Khushdil Shah, to get Quetta back on track for a competitive total. Iftikhar completed his fifty in 42 balls.
But it was in the last over of the Gladiator’s innings that Iftikhar unleashed hell on Wahab Riaz and smacked him for six sixes in the over to push his score to 94* in 50 balls and though Riaz claimed three wickets, he ended up conceding 47 runs in his full quota of four overs.
Interestingly, Wahab Riaz was named the caretaker sports minister of the Punjab province by the caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi and is expected to hold the position until elections of the Punjab Assembly are held in the next three to four months.
