England skipper Jos Buttler and South Africa’s star batsman Rassie van der Dussen were involved in a heated exchange during the second ODI between England and South Africa at Bloemfontein on Sunday (January 29).
South Africa had come into this encounter on the back of a victory in the first match and was looking forward to sealing the series in this match. Proteas captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Jos Buttler (94*), Harry Brook (80), and Moeen Ali (51) helped England post 342/7 in 50 overs. In reply, Bavuma led from the front with 109 and Aiden Markram made 49 runs. But in the end, David Miller made 58* and Marco Jansen made 32* as South Africa attained the target with five balls to spare and 5 wickets in hand.
However, during the match, Rassie van der Dussen and Jos Buttler were caught on the stump mic having a war of words. Buttler confronted van der Dussen during the innings after the South Africa batter seemingly blocked him from taking a catch.
"I'm trying to get to the ball. What's your problem Rassie? It's not all about you all the time," Buttler said.
Van der Dussen then replied: "No, it's about you."
"I'm allowed to try and catch the ball, added Buttler. "What do you want me to do?"
At this point, the umpires intervened, with one of them shouting: "Okay, calm down!"
The video of the exchange between the two is viral on social media. This was done to rattle Van der Dussen who is seen as the mainstay of South African batting.
