Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday (January 25) announced the five successful bidders for the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL).
One of the successful bidders in the list was Royal Challengers Sports Pvt. Ltd, which secured the ownership rights of the Bengaluru-based franchise for INR 901 Crore.
Amid the recent development, RCB’s star batter Virat Kohli took to Twitter and said that he can’t wait to cheer for the RCB women in the 2023 edition of WPL.
"Well played, RCB! So thrilled that my team has won the bid for the Bengaluru Women’s Premier League team. Can’t wait to cheer for our women in Red and Gold," Kohli tweeted.
Earlier in the day, Royal Challengers Bangalore took to Instagram to unveil a logo of their newly bought team.
“Breaking barriers, making history, and playing bold! Royal Challengers Bangalore are the proud owners of the Bengaluru Women’s Premier League Team,” the franchise wrote.
Besides Bengaluru, the BCCI also confirmed that the franchises based in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, and Lucknow will own teams in the WPL.
Adani Sportsline Pvt. Ltd and Indiawin Sports Pvt. Ltd bought the teams from Ahmedabad and Mumbai while the JSW GMR Cricket Pvt. Ltd and Capri Global Holdings Pvt. Ltd secured the ownership rights of Delhi and Lucknow, respectively.
