England defeated Pakistan in the second Test of the three-match series in Multan on December 12, 2022, on the 4th day of the encounter by 26 runs to go 0-2 up in the series with one more match to go.
Mark Wood snared four wickets as Pakistan put up a good fight while chasing a 355-run target to win the match. Saud Shakeel made 94 runs, Imam Ul Haq made 60, and Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Nawaz made 45 each as they tried to get Pakistan past the finishing line.
From 210/5, Pakistan slipped to 319/9 and once Ollie Robinson had Mohammad Ali nicking to Ollie Pope, victory was sealed.
Despite the clear edge, Ali decided to take the DRS review. But even as the DRS was being taken and the third umpire was going through the process, Stokes prematurely walked up to Ali to shake hands with him.
However, the Pakistan No. 11 batter refused to do so. He mouthed a few words to Stokes, probably reminding him that the decision was yet to pop up on the big screen, after which the England captain backed off.

Once, however, the signal was up on the big screen, Ali shook hands with Stokes and congratulated him on England’s victory.
The win marks England's first occasion of registering back-to-back wins in Pakistan in Tests and only their fourth win in Pakistan. This also meant that Babar Azam and his side were out of the race for the WTC 2023 final.
