“Dear cricket, give me one more chance”- Karun Nair tweets; fans react to his post

Karun Nair last played a Test for India against Australia in Dharamsala in 2017.

Karun Nair celebrates his triple ton | TwitterIndia batter Karun Nair took to Twitter and posted an emotional tweet asking cricket to give him another chance. He has been dropped from the Karnataka Ranji squad, ahead of their opening two encounters against Services and Pondicherry in Bengaluru.

Nair is mostly remembered for being only the second Indian after Virender Sehwag for scoring a triple hundred in Test cricket.

He made his Test debut for India in the Test series against England in 2016 at Mohali and created history in the final Test of the series which was played in Chennai. England had posted 477 runs and in reply, India posted 759/7d with KL Rahul falling for 199, while Parthiv Patel, R Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja scored fifties.

But the innings belonged to Karun Nair, who became only the third man in the game's history to convert a maiden Test ton into a triple.

He finished on 303*, however, was dropped for the next Test match as injured Ajinkya Rahane returned to the side. He couldn't sustain the same level of run-scoring and his record in Test currently stands at 374 runs in 6 Tests in all.

He has also played 2 ODIs for India, scoring 46 runs. He came close to selection once again in 2018, when he was taken to England on the 2018 Test tour, but was sidelined for all five Tests, while Hanuma Vihari made his Test debut ahead of him.

However, he has been out of contention for a long time with other players being preferred over him. Once seen as one of the most talented batters in the Indian Premier League, his fortunes have fallen there as well, as he struggles to keep afloat in domestic cricket as well.

Nair boasts of an impressive record of 5922 runs in 85 FC matches with 15 tons and the best score of 328 at an average of 48.94. He has also made 2119 runs in 90 List-A matches with 2 centuries and 2989 runs in 150 T20 matches with 2 centuries at a strike rate of 131.15.

Recently, it was reported that Saurashtra captain Jaydev Unadkat is in line for an India call-up in the Test series against Bangladesh for the first time since 2010 and his old tweet about the same went viral.

Now Karun Nair posted a similar tweet on his official handle which read: “Dear cricket, give me one more chance

However, the response to his tweet was a mixed bag, as many known cricketing names wished him luck and asked him to keep believing in himself, while many cricket fans asked him to perform consistently to get noticed.
