Tagenarine Chanderpaul made his Test debut at Perth in the first match of the series | GettyWest Indies batting legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul is widely regarded as one of the best batters to come out of the Caribbean and now his legacy is being taken forward by his son Tagenarine, who made his debut for the West Indies in the 1st Test against Australia at Perth.

Home skipper Pat Cummins had won the toss and chosen to bat first and his batters proved him right as Australia posted a mammoth 598/4 declared in their first innings. The heroes were Marnus Labuschagne who made 204 runs and Steve Smith, who remained not out on 200, equaling Sir Don Bradman’s Test record of 29 centuries.

Usman Khawaja made 65, while Travis Head fell one run short of a well-deserved century.

In response, West Indies ended day two on 74/0 with Tagenarine Chanderpaul going through a proper initiation when Mitchell Starc and co peppered him with yorkers and short balls, and he even got hit on hand, chest, and thigh in the process, but remained unbeaten on 47.

The left-handed batter had the entire cricket fraternity in awe when he came out to bat as his batting stance was almost a carbon copy of that of his father. Tagenarine has been inspired heavily by his father’s unusual batting stance and he also stands chest front while facing the bowlers while walking in line with the stumps.
