The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reprimanded Australian captain Aaron Finch for using inappropriate language during the first T20I match between Australia and England in Perth on October 9. He had used obscene words during the match, which was caught by the stump mic.
Actually, the 35-year-old Finch lost his cool in the ninth over of England's innings in the first T20I and went on to use some abusive language against the on-field umpires, Sam Nogajski and Donovan Koch, after they didn’t respond to an appeal for caught behind.
After discussing with his teammates whether to take DRS, Finch asked the umpires whether wicketkeeper Matthew Wade had taken the catch, to which they did not respond, leaving the Australian skipper fuming as time ran out on the DRS timer.
Finch vented his anger by saying: "Would have been f***ing nice to know inside 15 f***ing seconds".
His comments were picked up by the stump microphones, and he was reprimanded by the ICC for use of "audible obscenity" following the charges leveled by the two on-field umpires, along with third umpire Phil Gillespie and fourth umpire Shawn Craig.
The Australian skipper was found to have breached Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to the "use of an audible obscenity during an international match." However, Finch escaped a fine because it was his first offense in a 24-month period, but "one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record."
