England all-rounder Charlie Dean was in tears on Saturday when she was run out at the non-striker’s end during the third and final ODI against India women at the Lord’s. She was dismissed by Deepti Sharma while backing up too far.
England lost the match by 16 runs and the series 0-3 as India whitewashed them for the first time in their own backyard. Charlie Dean had taken England quite close to the victory from being 65/7 at one stage chasing 170 to win.
Dean was dismissed on 47 as England was nearing victory and she was left in tears after the third umpire confirmed her dismissal, but she sportingly shook hands with the Indian players who celebrated a historic series win and a fitting farewell to fast bowler Jhulan Goswami who played her last international match.
Meanwhile, a day after shedding tears on being dismissed in what many former and current England cricketers called a pathetic way of being dismissed, Charlie Dean decided to make light on the situation during the final of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy 2022 which is being played on Sunday at the same venue.
Playing for Southern Vipers against Northern Diamonds, Dean bowling the eight over, decided to playfully try and run out non-striker Linsey Smith, who managed to keep her one leg inside the return crease.
