Australia white-ball captain Aaron Finch played his final ODI after announcing his retirement ahead of the third match of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy against New Zealand at Cairns on September 11, 2022.
Finch finished his ODI career with 5406 runs in 146 ODIs with 17 centuries and 30 half-centuries. He made his debut in 2013 against Sri Lanka and was part of the 2015 World Cup winning team.
He also captained Australia to the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup and won the 2021 T20 World Cup in UAE. He will continue to captain the Kangaroos in T20Is as they prepare for the India tour and the T20 World Cup 2022 at home.
Meanwhile, as he walked onto the field to open the innings after New Zealand won the toss and chose to field first, his opposition captain Kane Williamson and the Kiwi team gave him a guard of honor with Williamson shaking hands with Finch.

Finch’s stay at the crease was a short one as he could make only 5 runs in 13 balls, before getting his stumps rattled by Tim Southee.
As he walked off the field for the last time in ODI cricket, Finch received a standing ovation from the crowd in the stands, while the Kiwi team applauded him as he made his way to the pavilion, soaking in the adulation.
