Indian cricket fraternity congratulates Droupadi Murmu on becoming the 15th President of India

Murmu is the first Tribal (adivasi) person to become India's President.

PM Narendra Modi congratulates Droupadi Murmu on being elected as 15th President of India | GettyNDA (National Democratic Alliance) candidate Droupadi Murmu became the 15th President of India after she defeated opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha by crossing the halfway mark and polling well over 53% votes by the end of the third round itself, on Thursday.

Murmu won by an overwhelming margin against Sinha after receiving over 64 percent valid votes in a day-long counting of ballots of MPs and MLAs, comprising the electoral college, to succeed Ram Nath Kovind to become the country's 15th president.

She will also create history as the first Adivasi (tribal) to become India's President and the first person born after India’s independence to be elected to the premier position and the youngest at the age of 64 to occupy the top post. She is also the second woman to become the President, after Pratibha Patil.

After the end of the counting process that continued for more than 10 hours, returning officer P C Mody declared Murmu as the winner and said that she got 6,76,803 votes against Sinha's 3,80,177 votes.

The President-elect will take oath on July 25, 2022.

The Indian cricket fraternity reacted to Droupadi Murmu’s election as the next India President and congratulated her on Twitter.
