SL v PAK 2022: WATCH- Imam Ul Haq’s bizarre stumping dismissal after failing to ground his backfoot inside crease

Pakistan have been set 342 runs to win the first Test.

Imam Ul Haq's stumping | TwitterPakistan opener Imam Ul Haq suffered a bizarre dismissal in the ongoing first Test against Sri Lanka as he was stumped by Niroshan Dickwella after he lazily forgot to ground his backfoot inside the crease.

After being set a mighty target of 342 in the series opener, Pakistan openers Imam and Abdullah Shafique started on a promising note, carrying the visitors to 68 runs without a loss at the end of the morning session on the fourth day.

The incident happened during the 29th over of Pakistan's chase of 342 on day 4 when spinner Ramesh Mendis was up against Imam. Mendis got a ball to leave Imam who was beaten all ends up. Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella gathered the ball and immediately chucked the bails and immediately appealed.

Other team members were seemingly unaware of what happened and didn’t seem interested in the appeal. Dickwella looked at the square-leg umpire and appealed again, who sent the decision upstairs.

Replays showed that the backfoot was off the ground as Imam dragged it. Tucker looked at it frame by frame before agreeing to the appeal as the giant screen displayed 'OUT'.

Here is the video of the dismissal:
