ENG v NZ 2022: WATCH- Joe Root and Ollie Pope’s fathers hug each other after the duo hit centuries in 2nd Test

England are just 80 runs behind New Zealand's first innings total in the second Test.

England stood in a strong position at the end of Day 3 of the ongoing second Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge after Ollie Pope and Joe Root struck scintillating centuries on Sunday (June 12).

In response to New Zealand's first innings total of 553 runs in the ongoing second Test at Trent Bridge, Root (163*) and Pope (145) smashed scintillating centuries, as well as adding 187 runs for the third wicket, to guide England to 473/5 on day three.

Now, the hosts are just 80 runs behind New Zealand's first innings total and are looking to get past the total as Root will resume play on Monday (June 13).

Meanwhile, it was quite an eventful day both on and off the field, as Root and Pope stole the show with their stunning batting, while in the stands, the duo’s fathers made headlines with their heart-melting gesture towards each other during the match at Trent Bridge on Sunday.

The proud fathers of Root and Pope were seen hugging each other at the stadium after the star batters completed their respective centuries in the ongoing second Test against New Zealand on Sunday, and the clip went viral in no time on social media.

They were sitting in the stands and embraced each other, seeing their respective sons taking England's strong position in the second Test against New Zealand.
