WI v ENG 2022: Cricket fraternity lauds Joe Root as he reaches 25 Test centuries milestone

The first Test of the series in Antigua was drawn and both sides are looking to gain an advantage in the three-match Test series.

England won the toss and chose to bat first. Saqib Mahmood and Matthew Fisher made their Test debut for the visitors, while West Indies came into this encounter with an unchanged side.

Opener Zak Crawley was out for a duck, while Alex Lees made 30 runs. However, the partnership of the first day came between Dan Lawrence and Joe Root.

Where Lawrence fell in the last over of the day for 91 runs with 13 fours and 1 six, the duo added 164 runs for the 3rd wicket as England ended day one on 244/3.

Root, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 119 with 12 fours, which was also his 25th Test century in his 116th match for England.

His knock was of the highest quality as he negated the West Indian bowlers with top-level technique and controlled aggression. This led to the members of the cricketing fraternity lauding Joe Root on social media.
