IPL 2022: WATCH - Hardik Pandya says name 'Gujarat Titans' represents true Gujaratis; adds leading home team is special

Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who will be captaining the new Ahmedabad-based IPL franchise- Gujarat Titans, said that the name is impactful and represents the ‘true Gujaratis’ in them. The name was revealed on February 9, Wednesday.

Being one of the two new franchises, Gujarat Titans, last month named Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, and Shubman Gill as their three drafts pick. 

Hardik was roped in by the franchise for INR 15 crores while the Afghanistan spinner and the young opener were brought by the team for INR 15 crores and 7 crores respectively.

Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra has been named as the head coach of Gujarat Titans along with Gary Kirsten, who will be the mentor and batting coach of the team. Former England batter Vikram Solanki will be the Director of Cricket for the Hardik Pandya-led franchise in IPL 2022.

Speaking on Star Sports, Hardik Pandya said that said the name 'Gujarat Titans' represents the energy of the state and it’s a very proud moment for him. 

"The name is great. It has an impact. And it represents the true Gujarati in us. It's a very proud moment. My family is also happy," Hardik Pandya said. 

Pandya further said that although Mumbai Indians will always be close to his heart but representing his home team along with being the captain is very special for him. 

"Obviously, before this, I played for Mumbai Indians. It will always be close to my heart. But to represent my home team and that too to lead the side is something very special. I am very happy,” he said. 

Gujarat Titans will enter into the IPL 2022 mega auction with a purse of INR 52 crores. The event will take place on 12th and 13th February in Bengaluru.
