The 'Spirit of Cricket' debate is back with a 'Mankading' incident during the match between Uganda and Papua New Guinea in the ongoing U-19 World Cup 2022.
It was the 16th over of the PNG innings, when John Kariko, the non-striker was caught off guard and mankaded by the bowler, Joseph Baguma. The non-strike had backed up too far at his end which gave the bowler an opportunity to dismiss him.
PNG were chasing 124 runs in 50 overs and with the loss of Kariko, they were 8 down on 74 runs. Eventually, Uganda defended the total and beat PNG by 35 runs as they were restricted to just 88 runs. Uganda will now take on Scotland in the play-off on January 13.

The video of the incident was posted by ICC on their official Instagram account. It received a mixed response as South Africa spinner Tabraiz Shamsi was in support of the dismissal, while ex-India cricketer Yuvraj Singh didn't like it.
Yuvraj's response read, "Absolutely poor". On the other hand, Shamsi wrote, "Nothing wrong with this if the batsman was out of his crease before the ball was bowled ????."
He further added, "Bowlers get penalized even if they overstep by a millimeter by mistake and a free hit is given so batsmen should stay behind the crease too :)".
