Perth Scorchers on Friday (January 28) clinched the Big Bash League (BBL) 2021-22 title with a thumping 79-run victory over Sydney Sixers in the final at Docklands Stadium, Melbourne.
Australia pacer Jhye Richardson dismissed Stephen O’Keefe LBW in the 17th over to seal the win but he suffered a bloodied nose while celebrating the victory.
Richardson copped a blow when New Zealand’s Colin Munro came in to join the celebration.
“It's always interesting. Copped one on the nose from one of the shoulders (smiles, when asked about the blood from his nose). only played two games. Special mention to all the boys for a job well done,” Jhye Richardson said after the match.
Coming to the match, Perth Scorchers posted 171/6 on the board after being asked to bat first. Laurie Evans starred with the bat for Perth, scoring 76 not out off 41 balls while captain Ashton Turner contributed 35-ball 54.
In reply, Sydney Sixers’ innings folded for a paltry 92 in 16.2 overs. It was a listless batting performance as no one except for Daniel Hughes (42) managed to touch the 20-run mark.
For the Scorchers, Andrew Tye (3-15), Jhye Richardson (2-20), and Ashton Agar (1-25) did the bulk of the damage with the ball.
