Renegades were chasing a target of 171 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and they lost the match by 1 run. 2 runs were needed off the final delivery when Gurinder Sandhu dismissed Cameron Boyce and sealed a win for Thunders.

Aaron Finch, the Renegades skipper's knock of 82 runs was in vain after a disappointing performance by the lower order.

Earlier in the match, the Renegades bowler Boyce created history in the BBL by becoming the first bowler to register a 'double hat-trick'. Boyce removed Alex Hales, Jason Sangha, Alex Ross, and Daniel Sams, however, he couldn't score the winning run for his team in the run-chase.
