On this day, last year, the Indian cricket team stunned Australia with a thumping win in Brisbane, breaching their fortress at the Gabba to seal the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 by 2-1.

India were not a full-strengthed side ahead of the Gabba Test match, having lost their key players due to injury. The series was leveled at 1-1 and Australia, being the host and a terrific record in Brisbane, were expected to take the trophy.

However, the team led by Ajinkya Rahane were not ready to bow down so easily and they put on an outstanding fight. India needed 328 runs in the fourth innings in 97 overs to register a memorable victory.

Opener Shubman Gill had slammed a brilliant 91 while wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant played a sensational knock of unbeaten 89 to take India home at the Gabba. Washington Sundar and Pant stitched a partnership of 53 runs in 55 deliveries for the 6th wicket to put Australia under pressure.

When Sundar got out for a well-made 22, India needed 10 runs more, and Pant eventually secured a historic win with a four-off Josh Hazlewood.

A year after the win, the Team India fans on Twitter recalled the unforgettable day in Indian cricket. They had become the first team to beat Australia at the Gabba in over 32 years.
