Former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers was all praises for his team after they defeated India in the second Test at Johannesburg by 7 wickets to level the ongoing series 1-1 with one more Test to go. He also lauded captain Dean Elgar for his amazing captaincy and batting performance.
South Africa chased down a 240-run target at the loss of just 3 wickets with Elgar remaining unbeaten on 96* to take his side past the finishing line. He got help from Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen as well, who formed crucial partnerships.
Proteas bowlers came to the party as they restricted a Virat Kohli-less Indian team to 202 runs in the 1st innings and 266 in the second innings. Marco Jansen picked 7 wickets in the match, while Kagiso Rabada claimed six scalps.
Temba Bavuma and Keegan Petersen made half-centuries in Proteas' first innings of 229 runs.
The Indian batters failed to put up a huge score in the second do despite fighting fifties from veterans Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, as other batters failed to get going. In the end, Elgar led the team to a historic win, as they beat India for the very first time at the venue in Tests.
Meanwhile, AB de Villiers took to Twitter to laud the team and the captain and posted, “Dean Elgar is a Captain I would follow! Well played Proteas”
The third and final Test to be played from January 11 at the Newlands in Cape Town.
