India captain Virat Kohli praised Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh for his performance in the movie '83', based on India's 1983 World Cup victory. Ranveer has played the role of the then India captain Kapil Dev in the movie, which is directed by Kabir Khan.

Kohli posted a tweet on Saturday (December 25), a day after the movie got released, and wrote that he relived 'the most iconic moment' of Indian cricket history. The India Test captain is currently on South Africa tour for the three-match Test series, starting on December 26.

"Couldn't have relived the most iconic moment of Indian cricket history in a better manner. A fantastically made movie which immerses you in the events and the emotion of the world cup in 1983. Splendid performances as well," he posted.

The 33-year-old further wrote, "@RanveerOfficial was a different level altogether. Great job everyone! @therealkapildev @kabirkhankk."

Apart from Ranveer, the performances of Pankaj Tripathi as team manager P.R. Man Singh, Jatin Sarna as Yashpal Sharma, Saqib Saleem as Mohinder Amarnath, and South Indian star Jiiva as Krishnamachari Srikkanth has been lauded by the critics.

India were not among the pre-tournament favorites to win the title in the 1983 World Cup. In fact, it wasn't expected that the team will even reach the semi-finals, but the Kapil-led team eventually lifted the trophy in Lord's. They had defeated West Indies at Lord's on 25 June 1983 to win their maiden World Cup tournament.
